Film Budgeting

  • different budgeting strategies and how filmmakers can help themselves through targeted budgeting

  • differences between aspirational budgets and the “must-have” budget

  • how budgeting plays a central role in fundraising

  • sequencing your budgeting to match the stages of production of your project

  • budget templates

  • best practices to build an accurate budget that is flexible yet accurate, including in-kind, deferred, and investor contributions

Film Accounting

  • strategic management of your financial recordkeeping from the beginning of your project into distribution

  • pros and cons of common systems for tracking your income and expenses

  • determining the level of detail for recordkeeping for private and public funding sources

  • strategies for managing cash flow

  • the relationship between different corporate types and implications for reporting producer compensation

  • how to anticipate tax consequences

  • tips for overall financial health of your project

Fiscal Sponsorship

  • best practices for what is required to apply to and work with fiscal sponsors
